Happy Hour

n. A period of time, usually in late afternoon and early evening, during which a bar or lounge features drinks at reduced prices.

To me, happy hour is a special time after work when I don’t really want to go home so instead I call up a few friends or coworkers to grab a drink or two before heading home. With a most youthful staff keen on all things awesome, we here at TA Ticket Printing are serious about our free time. And sometimes there is no better way to start off an evening away from our 2nd home (the office) than by joining up with some of our favorite people for an after work drink or two. A chance to unwind and relieve the stresses of the day are necessary for a healthy mind which is exactly why I believe it is our duty as the youthful young guns we are to instill and share our favorite ATL happy hour spots with you!

The Bookhouse Pub off Ponce de Leon

First up, Royal T’s happy hour spot of choice and why, “It’s an intimate space with really cool décor (check out the custom stained glass windows) and an invested staff full of various pop culture geeks including Whovians and Battlestar Galactica followers. The name of the game, though, are affordable drinks. They’ve got the best variety of affordable craft beers and a solid, consistent lineup on draught. Meal of choice: Bookhouse burger with pimento cheese, fries, and a Heavy Seas Loose Cannon.”

The Raging Burrito in Decatur

Print specialist Chris heads toward Decatur where it’s greater to get his happy hour fix and says, “I’d have to say Raging Burrito in Decatur. It has a great outdoor deck in the back, two separate rooms for inside dining with two bars and it’s easy to get to if you’re in Decatur or take MARTA. They validate for free 1 ½ hour parking, their chips and salsa plate is pretty much awesome and they have a great draft beer selection with local brewery Sweetwater and a microbrew of the month. They also have the only Margarita I’ve ever liked called the Monster Margarita. I wish we were all closer to that area as I would suggest it more often.”

Tin Lizzy’s Midtown

Jen’s explanation is quite simple as she explains, “They’ve got drinks, but more importantly, queso. Plus, salsas, nachos, tacos, quesadillas and any other delicious things you’d want to eat after a hard day of work!” Not to mention, it’s a hop, skip and a jump away from the office. Tin Lizzy’s has been a Ticket Alternative happy hour haven for a handful of office happy hour outings. Their outdoor seating is awesome and it’s not too crowded after 6pm. A favorite company happy hour location, for sure.

The Midway Pub in East Atlanta Village

A favorite for many of our staffers. Angela’s reasoning was more than to the point. I asked, what’s your favorite happy hour spot and give me a reason why and her reply was, “pumpkin beers AND the giant, nicely lit patio! I love it. Tots are good too.” Done and done! Very eloquent. And might I also add – their beer menu is ridiculously extensive and they have the best vegetarian corn dogs around.

Nakato Japanese Restaurant

Even though our hours may prevent us from getting to our most favorite happy hours spots, we still try! As manager Jason explains, “This is my favorite spot for happy hour. And, it’s for the food! My wife and I are friends with the owners and have been regulars for years. It’s one of our favorite restaurants (family-owned and operated!) in Atlanta and it’s nice to make it to happy hour when we can. Their happy hour food menu is really great. You get five small appetizers and a drink for only $15.00! Also, I like that we can sit and chill in the quiet dining room after a long day.”
His usual order:

Drink of choice: Green Tea

  1. Shumai (shrimp dumplings served w/ ponzu vinaigrette)
  2. Goma Ae (steamed spinach w/ sesame dressing)
  3. Panko shrimp
  4. Age Dashi tofu
  5. Seafood roll or spicy yellowtail roll

The Porter Beer Bar in Little 5

She may be OTP but CSR Johanna knows what she likes and says, “I rarely make it out for Happy Hour but my favorite bar to go to for a good drink and some good food would have to be The Porter. Not only do they have the most extensive beer list I’ve ever seen but they have some of the most delicious and high quality bar food around (complete with beer pairings!). If you’re ever in the area I highly recommend trying out a new beer and getting an order of their Belgian Fries, the Mac n’Cheese, or their delicious Sweetwater Grain Bread. And if it’s an entrée you’re looking for – can’t go wrong with the Shrimp & Grits, complete with a delicious truffle oil.” Yum!

Carroll Street Cafe in Cabbagetown

Carroll Street Cafe is a favorite of mine for after work drinks and noms. It’s cozy and has the perfect vibes for unwinding after a long day at work. The decor and atmosphere, including the ever changing art on the walls, make it perfect for grabbing a drink and tapas with friends. Last time I was there, they had 1/2 off tapas during the week until 7pm. I suggest trying a Bloody Mary and their Asparagus en Croute (asparagus and bleu cheese wrapped in Phyllo)!
